Is Wonderland Worth Playing?
A launch-week read of ScaryPlay's park, not a day-one recap dressed as a score.
Wonderland arrived on Roblox on 14 August 2026 with a two-year teaser trail, a pulled 8 August build, and a studio reputation that guarantees a queue. This review is for players who want to know whether the sit is a Mimic costume or a different machine. It is not a numbered score. Scores rot in a week. The systems will not.
The mid-article video is a launch-week explainer, not a substitute for the official trailer on Getting Started. Use it for timeline context, then come back to the systems.
What it is
A co-op horror escape in a toy park. Solo or five players. Randomised encounters and routes. Mini-games as gates. A Wonder Shop that sells vision, time, heals, and two real weapons. A stamina bar that recovers on walk. Three lives that belong to the squad. Official music by Ampient. Flashing lights and jumpscares as billed.
That list is already a different sentence than “The Mimic but carnival.” The Mimic is a linear folklore book. Wonderland is a shuffled park with a wallet. If you want authored set pieces in a fixed order, you will fight the design. If you want a reason to sit again after a wipe, the shuffle is the feature. How to escape is written for the second player.
What works at launch
The identity is clean. Mr. Sun, Wonder, and Wander already have readable tells — flicker, sprint hearing, fake doors — collected on named threats. The Shop gives you a way to answer the shuffle without a wiki overlay. Shared lives make public stacks spicy in a way a per-player down state never will.
Combat existing at all is the other hook. A Hammer and a Minigun mean a blocked door is not an automatic cutscene. Combat exists because the trailer was honest about guns. The game is still an escape title when you play it correctly.
What is rough at launch
Names. Half the midway is a community nickname on the creature roster. Prices in catalogues may drift from your live Shop. There is no public Trello. Codes started at one string, RELEASE26. If you need a solved bestiary and a weekly patch blog, you are early. What’s new is where we will catch up.
Randomisation also punishes creators who sell a single route. That is good for the game and annoying for the algorithm. Our Guides hub refuses a painted path on purpose.
Who should play
Play if you liked The Mimic’s craft and hated memorising the same hallway. Play if your stack can say “three lives total” without laughing. Play if you enjoy lever walls more than cutscene lore. Skip if you want a paid early access exclusive — it never existed, and clones that sell it are why official links exists. Skip if flashing lights are a hard no; the warning is not flavour.
Platforms
Mobile, PC, and console on the same day. That is a real advantage. The controls page is habits, not a unique keymap. The park does not wait for a PC-only patch to let phone players in.
Verdict
Wonderland is worth the sit if you treat it as a randomised escape with a shop, not as Mimic Book 5. Redeem the code, buy vision, walk more than you sprint, and let the park be different tomorrow. If that loop sounds like work, it is — and that is the compliment.
For the delay that almost made this review a preview, read the launch story. For the first hour, stay in Getting Started. For the stack, co-op. The park is open. Leave when you can.
